2020 was a year of loss, loved ones passed away and others chose to distance themselves from me. In response, I started a series of works incorporating the human heart as motif for life and love to explore the sadness I was feeling. My ink drawing never seemed resolved and I struggled with numerous ideas trying to complete the work to reflect my practice. When I heard about the HOLD project, I became enamoured with the idea of a heart etched onto a copper disk to be held in someone’s hand. Conceptually the notion of the fragility of relationship that is implied by holding a heart in your hand and, the further idea that a strong heart provides protection are themes central to my practice. I invite you to hold my heart in your hand, I promise to be a strength to you in times of trouble.
