This image is from an ongoing series that begin with photographs taken from a train window, on my regular commute between the West coast and Melbourne. The series is exploring themes around relative physical and technological speeds of movement and effects of digitisation on connections to the outside world. 2020 changed so much for this line of investigation in terms of limits on movement, casting this work further into a document of another time and place. Much of the connection to the outside world during this time became purely digital, highlighting the benefits and limitations of digital reconstructions.

Andrew Gunnell is a Lecturer in the Print Studio of the School of Art at RMIT University Themes informing current studio practice include the effect of digitisation on representations of natural phenomena and the contemporary landscape. Where internal and external evocations of time can be imagined through explorations of the threshold between analogue and digital image construction processes. He has participated in over 70 solo and group exhibitions. His work is held in public and private collections, including the National Gallery of Australia, the Asia Pacific Photographic Archive, the Hong Kong Open Print Workshop, and the State Library of Victoria.
