I adore being on my own, but during COVID isolation, for the first time, I felt alone. Isolation felt like a sentence, as a family we struggled with many challenges and I felt we were not able to share those struggles with anyone. This work, shot in the house we were meant to move into, with my daughter, represents that sense of alone, of wanting to be outside, but being trapped inside- in so many more ways than one.

Angelique Joy is a multidisciplinary artist, and cultural producer, working primarily with the construction of visual narrative. Her work utilises photography, set construction, costume design, text, and video installation to explore key aspects of identity formation, and to question societal frameworks with the intent to disrupt them.
