A study on Sunflowers and Death

2020

ink and pencil on paper, A3

This work was one of a series of drawings / mix media collage focusing on Sunflowers. In Brunswick, a number of people planted Sunflowers as they are meant to symbolise Hope. Lasting in full bloom for only twenty days once flowering, Sunflowers have also been used in Art History as a study of Death and Decay, which felt appropriate during the Pandemic. Here is one image I created in a series on Death and Sunflowers, to mark my experience in isolation.

I am a creative practitioner and Masters of Arts Management Student based in Melbourne's North. Working with a range of Institutions and as logistic / administration support across Melbourne for the past ten years, during Covid I returned to explore my original favourite mediums - sketching and collage.
