2020

Like so many others, the prolonged period of stage 4 restrictions and lockdown in Melbourne in 2020 halted much of my research. But eventually, it did lead me to seek innovative ways of working with the limited - but still relevant, materials available to me at home. There were some good outcomes I otherwise may not have achieved.

For more than 7 very long months we were not able to access our beautiful Gold & Silversmithing Post Grad studio. I missed being in the studio with my dear friends and colleagues so much. But we rallied and put together an online Instagram exhibition @emerging_jewellery_objects as part of Craft Victoria’s, Craft Contemporary. With great excitement and delight we were able to install the physical exhibition together at Assembly Point in South Bank in the days following the end of lockdown. This was a joyous day for all of us.

Lindy McSwan completed a BFA Honours in Gold & Silversmithing at RMIT in 2014. As a recipient of an Australia Council for the Arts, ArtStart Grant she established an independent studio practice in 2015. Lindy was an Artist in Residence in the Bundanon Trust program in 2017. She returned to RMIT in 2018 to commence her MFA undertaking material focused practice-led research. Enamelled mild steel vessels responding to a research field trip were exhibited at JOYA Barcelona 2018 and received the Alchimia Student Award. In 2019 Lindy’s solo exhibition Ground was part of the Radiant Pavilion Jewellery and Object biennial.
