Covid-19

linocut print

Inspired by the rising Covid-19 cases happening in Hong Kong in February 2020, the icons incorporated in this piece were taken from visual cues in my surroundings such as face masks, germs, hand washing, toilet roll shortages and changes in the environment. Within these icons I produced a final drawing combining all of my visual inspiration which was then used to create a linocut print to produce a surface pattern intended for a collection of masks. The meaning behind this piece was meant as a testimony of the radical upheavals of 2020 and the changes we are all facing.

I am Michaela Desideri-Zigante an Australian, Italian Artist who currently lives in Hong Kong. As an artist I work with a range of different medias and materials as well as enjoy learning and experimenting with new techniques. I enjoy using techniques that I know little of to gain more knowledge on that process. The techniques I am skilful in are printmaking, illustration, sculpture, textiles, design technology, graphic design, web design and 3D computer modelling.
